Most cleaning accidents happen because people think more cleaning power equals better results. But some combinations create dangerous chemical reactions. Here's what never to mix.
Bleach + Ammonia
This produces toxic chloramine vapors that can cause serious respiratory damage. Many glass cleaners contain ammonia — never use them with bleach on the same surface.
Bleach + Vinegar
Mixing these releases chlorine gas. Both are useful disinfectants on their own — use them on separate days, rinsing thoroughly in between.
Hydrogen Peroxide + Vinegar
Together they form peracetic acid, which can be corrosive to skin, eyes, and lungs at higher concentrations.
- Always read labels before mixing products
- Never mix products in the same spray bottle
- When in doubt, use one product at a time and rinse before switching
